Grid Reliability

Main content start

Modern life requires that electricity be delivered reliably – avoiding blackouts as well as momentary supply interruptions and frequency deviations – and cost effectively. This will become increasingly challenging as previously fossil fueled sectors, like transportation and some heavy industry, are electrified. One major research project in this area seeks to understand the engineering, economic and policy implications having 50 percent of cars, trucks and buses electrified by 2030.
