DOE University Consortium
EARNEST Kickoff
January 30, 2024
Overview
Stanford University, with several universities and other research partners, is launching a new University Consortium to study an "Equitable, Affordable & Resilient Nationwide Energy System Transition" (EARNEST). This large effort is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, and will include research, graduate education, development of decisions tools for communities, regulators, and industry.
Over the course of the day, participants learned about the goals and structure of this new university consortium. You will hear from U.S. federal agency representatives, regulators, and traditionally underrepresented communities on how the consortium can assess decarbonization pathways for the U.S. electric grid while enhancing resilience of grid services and ensuring that distributional concerns, are addressed. This event invited experts, stakeholders, and community members from across North America to come together with the goal of introducing and building collaborative efforts to shape a more sustainable energy landscape on a continental scale.
