In addition to engineered solutions to reducing carbon in the atmosphere, natural carbon sinks is also a significant avenue of research at Stanford. In one large project, a Stanford research team is assessing the constraints and enablers for increasing carbon storage in the terrestrial biosphere. Other researchers are exploring the restoration of peatlands, riverbanks, forests, grasslands and other carbon sinks.
