Green Finance in China

In the global exploration of Green finance, through both securities (Green Bonds) and bank lending, China has emerged as the leading figure. Nevertheless, questions of what investments count as Green, the character and effectiveness of incentives, transparency of the quality of the flows to investors and policy makers, impacts on the availability and costs of capital, and the broader economic and financial impacts of these funds call for attention and analysis. SFI, working with Climate Policy Initiative, the World Bank Group and Chinese partners is initiating research in the empirical development of China’s Green Finance system and analysis of the multiple dimensions of its performance.
