Wind
Main content start
Stanford researchers are engaged in a variety of studies designed to enhance the efficiency and reduce the cost of wind energy. One research team is exploring the use of vertical wind turbines, which have a smaller footprint and a less-damaging impact on wildlife than conventional horizontal turbines. Other research projects include developing computer models to increase power output, reduce noise and lower the financial cost of wind turbines; quantifying wind resources to lessen the impacts of intermittency on the electric grid; and conducting lifecycle analyses of the embodied energy required to manufacture, install and operate wind farms.
