Sujata has senior federal government experience working on defense and homeland security technology programs. She served as the Deputy Director of Research at the Office of Naval Research (Department of the Navy), where she oversaw all the Navy's basic and early applied research accounts. She was also a Social Sciences Researcher at HP Labs in Palo Alto. There she created the Open World concept which she introduced at a TEDx in Monterey. Her career started with the Navy's engineering commands, and she has expertise in Department of Commerce's national innovation engagements with industry and small businesses. Sujata has also served as a Staff Member for the U.S. Senate's Appropriations Committee.
Sujata's expertise is in designing and evaluating technology programs for scale-up and impact. She has primarily worked at the intersection of technology, policy, and has acted as an intermediary between the science and research administration communities. At Stanford, she is looking at how to tap into the university's dense innovation environment and to connect startups, VC's with government technology priorities. She welcomes ideas and conversations on it.
Sujata has a B.S. in Ocean Engineering from Berkeley, a M.S in Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech and a M.P.A and D.P.A in Public Administration and Public Policy from the University of Southern California.
