Cuberg

Richard is the founder and CEO at Cuberg, which is a startup commercializing high-performance battery products based on its energy-dense lithium metal cell technology. He started the company in 2015 while completing his graduate work at Stanford and successfully funded the company through private investment from partners like Boeing HorizonX Ventures and grants from the California Energy Commission and the Department of Energy. Richard led Cuberg to a successful acquisition by Northvolt in 2021 five years after spinning out the company from Stanford. He is now focused on scaling the company to meet the very high demand for Cuberg’s industry-defining high-performance battery systems. Richard graduated with his Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from Stanford University and with his BS in mechanical engineering from the California Institute of Technology. Richard was selected for the Forbes 30 Under 30 in Energy in 2017 and for the MIT 35 Innovators Under 35 in 2022 in recognition of his contributions shaping clean energy innovation.
