Jay Precourt holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in petroleum engineering from Stanford University and an MBA from Harvard University. After schooling, Precourt embarked on a career in oil and gas, from which he has never quite fully retired. Beginning in his 30’s he founded five successive and highly successful start-up energy companies, one a NYSE company, selling in twelve years for twenty-one times the initial investment, and another for twenty-four times in five years. Precourt also has extensive public company board experience serving as board chairman on some and serving on or chairing finance, compensation, nomination, and executive committees with Hamilton Oil, the Timken Company, Apache Corporation, Halliburton, Tejas Gas Corporation, as well as several large private industrial corporations and non-profits. At Stanford, Precourt is the founding donor of the Precourt Institute for Energy and is vice-chairman of its Advisory Council. He is also a member of the the Woods Institute for the Environment’s Advisory Council, and founded the Global Energy Forum, which now resides at Stanford.
