Four Stanford energy experts discussed developments in energy and sustainability research and education across campus on March 7 at CERAWeek, the annual energy industry conference in Houston, which has been described by the Financial Times as the "the Davos of energy."

Four Stanford University energy experts discussed developments in energy and sustainability research and education across campus on March 7 at CERAWeek, the annual energy industry huge conference in Houston, which has been described by the Financial Times as the "the Davos of energy." Topics included Dean Majumdar's listening tour with students, faculty and staff, and integrating sustainability research throughout all seven of Stanford's schools. They also discussed developing sustainable energy solutions that are affordable and can quickly scale commercially, as well as the breadth of energy research at the university. Stanford is ranked No. 1 in energy research and education among U.S. universities by Nature, U.S. News & World Report and the American Energy Society.

S&P Global's Coralie Laurencin interviewed Arun Majumdar, dean, Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability; Yi Cui, director of the Precourt Institute for Energy; Thomas Jaramillo, director of the SUNCAT Center for Interface Science & Catalysis; and Naomi Boness, managing director of the Natural Gas Initiative.

Other Stanford faculty members who spoke at CERAWeek this year are:

  • Sally Benson, who is on leave from Stanford while working in the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy as deputy director for energy;
  • Will Chueh, co-director of the StorageX Initiative;
  • Thomas Heller, director of the Sustainable Finance Initiative;
  • and Ram Rajagopal, co-director of the Bits & Watts Initiative.

The StorageX, Sustainable Finance, Bits & Watts, and Natural Gas initiatives are all located within the Precourt Institute for Energy, which is part of the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. Several other staff members and Stanford alumni also spoke at the conference. Stanford is a university partner of CERAWeek.
