Stanford-led group releases key messages on the future of transportation

Global demand for transportation is expected to double or even triple over the next 30 years.

Meeting this demand will require innovations in technology, policy and finance for the sector to be environmentally sustainable, affordable and safe, according to the Stanford Energy Global Council, a new group led by Stanford University’s Precourt Institute for Energy

The council, which includes energy experts from academia and industry, held its first roundtable in August with leaders in the transportation sector. The group is sharing its key messages today and will publish a paper on the future of transportation next spring.

No single magic bullet will make all forms of personal and freight transportation sustainable, affordable, safe and uncongested. The key messages provide a holistic view of how to shape the future of energy to be sustainable, affordable and safe.
