Margot Gerritsen's area of expertise is in computer simulation of fluid flow processes. Her areas of interest include Enhanced Oil Recovery processes, coastal ocean dynamics and shape optimization for flexible membrane structures, such as sails. She teaches courses in Energy and the Environment, and is interested in world energy portfolios. Margot has a courtesy appointment in Mechanical Engineering, as well as Civil & Environmental Engineering. She is a member of the Steering committee of ICME, and the director of Stanford Yacht Research. Margot earned a MSc in Applied Mathematics from the University of Technology in Delft, Netherlands, and a PhD in Scientific Computing and Computational Mathematics from Stanford. Before coming back to Stanford, she held a faculty position at the University of Auckland, New Zealand.
