San Diego Community Power is a coalition of people focused on moving towards a healthier and sustainable clean energy future. Their goal is to manage their community's electricity supply, taking advantage of the affordable, common sense options available for cleaner power, today and for future generations. This seminar will discuss how local government start-ups are decarbonizing California’s power grid.

Byron Vosburg

Byron Vosburg has over ten years of experience in the California electric utility and CCA industries. He began his energy career at Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) in the Energy Procurement group, where he worked on the Energy Contract Management and Settlements team, the Real-Time Operations trading desk, and the Renewable Solicitations team. In 2016, Byron joined Marin Clean Energy (MCE) where his responsibilities included power supply resource planning, managing MCE’s annual Open Season solicitation, and negotiation, management, and settlement of power purchase agreements.

Starting at TEA in 2018, Byron’s primary focus was procurement efforts to facilitate the start-up and expansion of Clean Power Alliance. He led solicitation-based and bilateral procurement of over $1.7 billion dollars in energy hedging products, resource adequacy, renewable and carbon-free energy, and energy storage transactions. Since joining SDCP in February 2021, Byron has immersed himself in start-up activities from resource planning, risk management, load forecasting, staff planning, negotiation of five long-term PPAs, and development of a team of knowledgeable Power Services specialists.

Byron received his BS in Biological Sciences and MS in Civil and Environmental Engineering (Atmosphere and Energy Studies) from Stanford University.
