This talk will review the challenges and opportunities for Brazil's journey towards a zero net CO2 emissions. It will discuss the largest emission sources and the comparative advantages enjoyed by the country in renewable energy. The talk will highlight the interplay of electrification and use of biofuels. It will also explore affordable opportunities for carbon capture and sequestration that can help facilitate the use of the large oil/gas reserves at the off shore pre sal province in the long term.  

Speaker bio:

Joaquim Levy

Joaquim Levy is currently a fellow at the Steyer Taylor Center at Stanford University. Before that he was President of Brazilian Development Bank, a major financer of renewable energy, CFO of the World Bank where he worked with Financial Stability Board to address the hurdles to finance infrastructure and in particular green infrastructure.  Joaquim Levy was minister of finance and Secretary of the National Treasury in Brazil and chief strategist and CEO of Bram one of the largest asset managers in South America with more than $100 in aum.
